Interior Designer, Residential

Job Description:

Welcome is changing the way people buy real estate, and we want you to help build Welcome! We are a fast-growing, venture-backed startup building new homes that are purchased online, customized, and delivered in six months at an incredible value. 

We are looking to hire a thoughtful, passionate, motivated Interior Designer who is looking for an atypical design position. There are a lot of firsts here and we are looking to do things differently, which means a lot of idea testing and getting out of our comfort zone. It also means shifting responsibilities as we scale. You have to be comfortable designing in multiple aesthetics, and have the ability to design the same space with multiple looks. Great product knowledge is another must; whether we are spec’ing the base home or looking for that next thoughtful upgrade it’s all about a deep and wide knowledge of products. And while this is a design position, we are a prop-tech startup, which means proficiency with technology (both packaged and proprietary), and the ability to communicate problems we are trying to solve in the physical world to our digital product team will be a necessity.


  • Take design direction from the Senior Design Lead and execute various designs and product specifications based on overall vision

    • Including exterior facade design and product specification

  • Work closely with Architecture in the concept design phase of new home models

  • Enter specified product into our proprietary construction & design app with pertinent details and costing information

    • Ability to look at our app critically and help its development

  • Communicate with various suppliers / new companies to procure sample materials and build new relationships 

  • Work with various product partners on shop drawings and quotes

  • Organize and keep product cut sheets up to date

  • Prepare project breakout folders for each new client pulling only relevant spec and shop drawing sheets for the specific build

  • Work closely with Product Procurement on value engineering, answering product questions, reviewing additional product options

What you’ll need:

  • Proven work as a designer having designed / overseen / supported in excess of 20 residential projects

    • Design portfolio required for review with resume

  • Practical knowledge of how the home design process works

  • Ability to work on a team and collaborate with other teams within the organization

  • Ability to read construction drawings with a working knowledge of MEP drawings

  • Ability to work on multiple projects at the same time is a must

  • High level of organization

  • Solid proficiency with technology

  • Willingness to solve problems that haven’t been solved before

  • Curiosity, Passion, and Drive to work at a fast paced startup
